as i read through Digg articles this morning (a few minutes ago), i came across an article entitled The 10 Oddest Apple-Themed Products. From giant headphone speakers to mac fish tanks, these techie-inspired objects are amazing. this all reminds that there are awesome people out there who will revamp the ordinary home. my home is in need of a geeky makeover now.

morning thoughts

8:39 AM
i am a 22 year old unemployed young New Yorker. sounds about right.
vacations have a way of delaying the tide of reality that knows just the right angle to knock me down. i have a tendency to day dream, think about new projects for myself–mostly during mornings like this. for some reason, this particular morning a movie came to mind.
i realized the characters i have met in my post-HS career would make a great (hour) film. after high school i went from Jamaica-bound to Manhattan-bound. i came to the island not knowing anyone (granted, a train ride away from home)
Me: long haired, eyebrow ring-wearing, corduroy and t-shirt girl.
young and sheltered.
going to school in a City University, i met a true mix of NY…
Russians of Brooklyn
California girl making her way to the east coast bringing new adventures
Ohio
the Red-Head, my first art history friend
incubus-loving, musical firecracker
New Jersey
…the list goes on…
i cut my hair, put on contacts, joined the Fine Arts Department in hopes of becoming something different and beautiful. i jumped into jobs working for a crazy photographer who made time for coffee in the afternoon and photography tutoring on the side. i went back to my childhood museum working and learning about Howdy Doody, Lieutenant Commander Worf and Photoplay. (yes, random)
after my first little heartbreak, i had a series of crushes and awkward dates. school and internships were mentally set aside. i went to loft parties with my Californian…hoping to meet new people and be happy. and then, i found someone to love. no artist hidden in the converted factory buildings of Bushwick.
this is where i stop. this romance has had it’s own adventures. it was put on hold for a bit, but never closed.
9:30 AM
i’m still 22 and unemployed.
i’ve felt like New York has been pushing me out. why can’t i leave? i think i’ve met them all.

if i could use names and more detailed descriptions, we’d have something special here.

We shared a bear suit at an apartment party on Saturday night.
I asked for your number and you gave it to me, but somehow I don’t have an area code written down. I had a great time talking with you, and I don’t trust Chance enough to wait until I see you in the elevators…

Look: historically, I’m not a morning person. And to top it off, I was grimacing through some lower back pain that flowered over the weekend. So when you noticed me (white guy, brown hair, blue/white striped shirt, earphones, red book) and I noticed you (white girl, brown hair, nosering, headphones, blue book) for however brief a moment this morning, it was bolstering and made me forget the knife in my back. Haven’t noticed you before, but if there’s a next time, maybe I can slap myself out of the morning slumber and say hey. No promises, though.

Paris, Je T’aime
2009/11/25 · Leave a Comment
Last night, I watched Paris, Je T’aime, a 2006 series of short films written by twenty filmmakers all held together by the main narrative: Paris.
The five-minute films really do stand alone as works of individual minds as they venture into different worlds and perspectives of the city of love, lights, and, yes, heart break.
I had one particular favorite:
Bastille (XIIe arrondissement) — by Spanish writer-director Isabel Coixet.
It begins with a Parisian cafe. As a man waits for his wife, he describes every exhaustingly boring detail about her. We discover he plans to reveal to her at the cafe that he is leaving her for his young mistress. The plot then turns. She begins to cry. She has leukemia. He was obligated to care for her. At this point, my mind was set: not only did he cheat on her, and take note of every reason to leave her, but now we are supposed to sympathize with him and his “obligation”?
But, this film took yet another turn that was really heart wrenchingly beautiful. In a strange way, it showed the purity of love. Despite his past, this new man was fragile and yearning for his wife. I almost felt the pain and anguish from knowing he would lose the love of his life. Imagine, when you break up with someone and you have that real/physical pain of heartbreak…that you are amazed even exists. That’s kind of what I felt as I watched this short film. The scene of her making dumplings and whistling that made him want to leave her, that very scene..made him never want to let her go..literally. She died in his arms.
There is not much hatred left towards the end of the film as much as sadness for what he took for granted.
You can watch it for yourself here and feel for yourself:
